Nail Conditions

Ingrown Toenails

Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal Nail Infections

An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the nail irritates or penetrates the surrounding skin. It can cause pain, redness, swelling and sometimes infection. Treatment depends on the severity and whether the problem is recurring. Some nails can be managed conservatively, while persistent or recurrent ingrown toenails may benefit from nail surgery under local anaesthetic.

Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal nail infections can cause nails to become discoloured, thickened, brittle or crumbly. However, not every thick or discoloured nail is fungal, so assessment is useful before committing to lengthy treatment. We can assess the nail, discuss treatment options and provide advice on managing the nail and reducing the risk of the infection spreading or recurring.

Thickened Toenails

Fungal Nail Infections

Curved & Involuted Nails

Toenails can become thickened due to repeated trauma, footwear pressure, previous injury, fungal infection, ageing or other nail conditions. Thick nails can become uncomfortable and difficult to cut safely at home. Podiatry treatment can reduce the thickness and length of the nail, improving comfort and allowing us to assess whether an underlying condition may be contributing.

Curved & Involuted Nails

Broken, Split & Damaged Toenails

Curved & Involuted Nails

Some toenails naturally become excessively curved or involuted, placing pressure on the skin along the sides of the nail. This can cause discomfort even when the nail has not actually broken the skin. Podiatry treatment can reduce pressure and improve comfort, while recurrent or more severe problems can be assessed to determine whether another treatment approach may be beneficial.

Detached or Loose Toenails

Broken, Split & Damaged Toenails

Broken, Split & Damaged Toenails

A toenail can partially or completely separate from the nail bed following trauma, repeated footwear pressure, infection or other nail conditions. Loose nails can catch on socks and footwear and may become uncomfortable. We can safely assess and manage the damaged nail, protect the underlying area and advise you on what to expect as the nail grows.

Broken, Split & Damaged Toenails

Toenails can split, break or partially detach following an injury, repeated pressure from footwear, sport or changes within the nail itself. A damaged nail can become painful, catch on socks and footwear or leave the sensitive nail bed exposed. We can safely assess and manage the damaged nail, remove loose or problematic sections where appropriate and advise on protecting the area while it grows. For selected damaged or partially missing nails, nail reconstruction may also be an option.
